Why Choose Musturf

We are trained and experienced in low-maintenance lawn & grass care needs. We can be as visible or invisible as your job requires, and we’re always professional and courteous.

Newcastle, NSW, is in the Hunter Region and experiences a temperate coastal climate, with an average annual temperature of around 18°C. Summer daytime temperatures regularly exceed 25°C, while winter brings cooler, wetter conditions.

The time has come for a more responsible approach to business. The effect that industry and our endeavours as humans have had on the environment is painfully obvious as we approach the third decade of the 21st Century.

As such, here at Musturf, we are doing our part to reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to environmental recovery by growing, selling, installing, and maintaining natural turf grasses.

Natural turf plays a practical role in Newcastle homes and public spaces by cooling surfaces, managing runoff during wetter months, and supporting healthier outdoor areas across residential and community settings.

Turf Supplies in Newcastle

Those who need turf supplies in Newcastle are encouraged to explore what we offer. Our extensive range of grass varieties makes it possible to achieve wonders in your back garden, create the perfect playing field for sports, or deliver an exceptional public area that families and communities can enjoy for years to come.

With average annual rainfall of over 1,100 mm spread across the year, turf in Newcastle must handle periods of heavy moisture while maintaining consistent growth and surface stability.

Coastal breezes and higher humidity levels also mean turf selection needs to account for drainage, dense growth, and resistance to common moisture-related stress.

Read on for some handy tips for installing your new turf.

How to Install Your New Turf

Firstly, you need to ensure you have properly prepared the soil before you install your new turf. Properly prepared soil will mean that your turf can become well-established and will thrive in the future.

You need to make sure that you are putting your new turf onto a smooth, levelled area; use a spirit level to check that your ground is level.

Using a heavy roller will make sure the soil is compact and ready to take on the roots from your turf.

Before you lay your new turf, you need to ensure that the soil is wet. You need to be ready to lay your new turf as soon as it arrives to avoid it drying out.

Starting with the edge, begin to lay your turf. For each roll, make sure that it is placed close to the one you have already laid so that there are no gaps. A key thing to remember is that the turf must always be in contact with the soil, or it will not be able to become established.

Use a straight edge, like a long piece of wood, and cut any overhang from your turf with a sharp knife to get the perfect edge for your lawn.

Once laid, you can use a heavy roller again to ensure the soil and turf are fully connected with one another.

Finally, make sure your new turf is watered. Water your new grass in the upcoming weeks to keep your new lawn healthy and allow it to establish its roots fully. Be careful not to let it dry out.

Avoid mowing your new lawn until it is fully established, which can be from as little as two weeks. It can take longer if the weather is cooler.

Enjoy seeing, playing, and sitting on your new turf!

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions We Get Asked The Most By Our Clients

What size rolls do you supply?

We supply two roll sizes to suit different job requirements. Standard rolls measure 600mm wide by 1.7 metres long. Maxi rolls measure 610mm wide by 40 metres long. Standard rolls suit smaller areas. Maxi rolls suit large residential, commercial, and open space projects.

How many m2 are in each roll?

Each standard roll covers just over 1 square metre. Each maxi roll covers approximately 24 square metres. Coverage can vary slightly based on turf variety and cutting method. Our team can help calculate the total quantity needed based on your site size and preparation.

What are your prices?

Turf prices vary based on grass variety, roll size, and order volume. Delivery location can also affect total cost. Prices change seasonally due to growing conditions. For accurate pricing, we recommend requesting a quote so we can match the right turf to your needs.

How long is the turnaround time from order to delivery?

Turnaround time is usually fast once an order is confirmed. Most turf orders are delivered within a few days, subject to availability and weather. We supply freshly cut turf, so timing is planned carefully. Our team will confirm delivery details before dispatch.

What’s the difference between Sir Walter DNA Certified compared to other types of buffalo?

Sir Walter DNA Certified Buffalo is tested for genetic consistency, performance, and quality. It offers dense growth, strong wear tolerance, and good shade performance. Other buffalo types can vary in texture and reliability. DNA certification provides confidence in what you are laying.

What does the 10-year product warranty cover?

The 10-year LSA product warranty covers the genetic integrity of the turf supplied. It confirms you receive the correct grass variety as ordered. The warranty applies when turf is installed and maintained following recommended guidelines. Our team provides after-care advice to support this.

How much does each roll of turf weigh?

Roll weight varies depending on turf variety and moisture levels at cutting. Standard rolls generally weigh between 15 and 25 kilograms. Maxi rolls are heavier and require machinery for handling. Our team can advise on access needs before delivery to avoid handling issues.

Can you still lay turf in winter?

Yes, turf can be laid during winter in Newcastle. Growth slows in cooler temperatures, but turf can still establish with correct preparation and care. Winter installation often benefits from lower water demand. Our team will provide guidance based on seasonal conditions at the time.

How thick is your grass in millimetres?

Our turf is cut to a consistent thickness that supports healthy establishment. On average, turf thickness ranges between 30 and 40 millimetres, including soil and roots. This depth supports a strong root base while making the turf easier to handle during installation.

Do you install as well as supply and deliver?

Yes, we offer turf installation services in addition to supply and delivery. Installation includes site preparation, laying, and initial care guidance. This service suits homeowners, builders, and commercial clients who want a complete solution. Installation availability depends on location and scheduling.
