At Musturf, we choose to grow Eureka Kikuyu grass as our budget-friendly and tough wearing choice for lawns.
This tough grass is a popular choice for families; dogs and other animals can occasionally decide they would like to dig up our lawns, which can be tremendously fun for them but can leave you with a sorry-looking lawn. The good news is that when you choose Kikuyu grass, it quickly self-repairs itself, leaving you with a beautiful looking lawn once more.
It can also withstand children who love to practice their ball skills, along with having ride-along toys and climbing frames.
When your Kikuyu grass is first installed, it is important to water it regularly to allow the roots to become established and to keep the soil moist. If the weather is warmer, then it will require more water than if you have your turf installed in the autumn or winter.
You are best to water your Kikuyu grass first thing in the morning or in the evening when the sun has gone down. Be careful not to over-water your Kikuyu grass as this could lead to damage. A good watering every once in a while, will encourage the roots to grow deeply and your grass to be resistant to drought, which is key in the Australian climate.
Resist from mowing your Kikuyu grass until it is established. Once your turf has taken, you will probably need to mow your lawn about once a week as it is a fast grower. In the cooler months, it will not need as much mowing.
As Kikuyu grass likes the sunshine, for the shaded parts of your lawn, try to keep the grass a little longer to allow it to receive more light.
A fertiliser can be used to keep your Kikuyu grass in tip-top condition; it helps to keep it healthy, prevent disease and give it a rich, wonderful green colour. Aim to use fertiliser at the beginning of spring and autumn.
If you are wondering whether Kikuyu grass is the right lawn & turf for you, give our friendly experts a call at Musturf, and we will happily answer all your questions and give you our advice.
